Conference catch-up

The WAWC international online conference in April was highly successful, attracting a total of 476 registrations with 315 people attending on the day.  An international panel of 14 speakers and four session chairs harnessed their profound expertise and knowledge of wild animal welfare to guide participants through a wide range of topics.  All sessions of the conference were recorded and are available on the WAWC YouTube channel.  We are most grateful to the Universities’ Federation for Animal Welfare for hosting the conference and to WAWC Member Stephen Wickens for his technical support throughout the process.

Please do take a look at the presentations and live question sessions on YouTube.  As an appetiser, you might like to scroll through some of the screenshots on our Twitter page – it was a busy and absorbing day…

Following the full-day conference, the WAWC hosted a smaller seminar looking at models for assessing wild animal welfare and how these could be applied in different situations and circumstances.  These proceedings will be written up as a formal article and the WAWC hopes they will contribute to both the acknowledgment and promotion of wild animal welfare in the UK. In particular, the WAWC is communicating these outcomes to the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission, whose remit includes the welfare of wild animals in Scotland.
